This re-adaptive, reuse and refurbishment project takes place in a century old house on the main avenue of the re-emerging Roma district of Mexico City. Preserving the facade in it’s entirety, on the inside new vertical circulations and two interior patios are converted into a Piranesi like maze of activities and movement. Three visually interconnected levels house bookstore, restaurant and bar and are crowned by a black box 120 seat theatre at the top. Mixing original elements of the house, like vaulted brick ceilings, with more contemporary glass, wood and steel elements, in combination with vintage and modern furniture, give the space a very warm yet active feel. It has become, since it’s opening, an important destination and cultural hub of one of the most exciting areas in the city.
